Facebook-owned Instagram announced it is testing the ‘Instagram Lite’ app, designed for Indian users.
The app currently supports Android devices and is available in regional languages including Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Marathi, and Kannada. It can also be used by consumers having low memory space phones that can not support large-sized apps. It is less than 2MB in size and is meant for users having low internet connectivity.
This app is similar to the main Instagram app except for a few features like Reels, IGTV, and Shopping.
India has been testing for many new features of Instagram like reels, reels tab, and live rooms.
Testing Instagram Lite will help gain valuable insights before a global rollout in India.
